Here is a presentation of the first process of our axis crossing Patras' Port. The linings are redesigning squares and the coastline of Patra.

While designing the Patra's University Project a friend sent me a very interesting video created by Costas Gavras. I can't say that it surprised me but it uses nice animation techniques.

I was finally able to upload my Thesis. The title is "City and Globalization" and it investigates the impact of globalization in urban space practitioners. Unfortunately, there is no English version at the moment (just the summary) but I will post it when it is ready.
I would like to thank Professon Vasiliki Petridou for all her help!

A new direction was decided!
Having a large Coastal Front we moved our project to the NorthEast side of the city, connecting the city with the sea. Using a more radical lining and creating a massive contradiction with the existing grid, the project is opening the view to the sea.

Through the lining we are making various sections to the existing building blocks, opening large urban spaces and reforming the coastal line of Patras.

Although the lining needs a lot of work, this is a first glimpse of what the project should look like.

After hearing some useful suggestions by Ms. Liapi we had to change some things in our project. After discussing a lot about the basic axis of our project we ended up with... nothing. The level of our intervention in the urban space of the city is under discussion...

MILD vs HARD

SMALL vs BIG

A ping-pong tournament can refresh minds!

After grouping the functions that will be transfered in Patras we begun searching for spaces that can accommodate these functions and can create a network of buildings inside the existing urban network.
After locating our spaces of interest we tried to create an urban network to intaract with the strict grid of the city. Every differnt color represnts a different university function. Our main axis is a main pedestrians road that connects the city with a big theatre situated in the heart of Patras Old Port.
A new series of Posts begins!
While designing my diploma project with Pavlos Bakagiannis and Giorgos Tsiros I will keep like an online diary with the course of the design process. Our project professor-assistant is Katerina Liapi. Our main target is to re-associate the University of Patras with the city of Patras. Although the largest part of the student community lives in the core -or around the core- of the city of Patras, the university is situated 7 km away. The great distance combined with the lack of quality public transport creates a great gap between the university and the city.
Moving a series of functions of the University inside the city of Patras can create a new link between the city and the university. Our intention is to connect these spaces of production and spread of information with the social network of Patras.
